Launched in 2018, Macallan’s 18-Year-Old Triple Cask Matured replaces the much-loved Fine Oak. Always one of Speyside’s most sought-after single malts, this Macallan has been aged for almost two decades in a combination of Sherry casks, Bourbon casks and American oak casks that have been seasoned with Sherry. This unique technique, particularly the latter hybrid barrelling, demonstrates the distillery’s immense attention to detail. In the glass, you’ll find a silky smooth and exotically spiced single malt redolent of tropical fruits baked with Demerara sugar, dark chocolate-covered orange peel and crystallised ginger, damson jam, roasted chestnuts and almonds, summer pudding, toffee, jasmine, cinnamon, nutmeg and wisps of wood smoke.
“Macallan is the daddy, as far as legendary whiskies go.” So says whisky expert Ian Buxton. This Speyside behemoth enjoys huge global demand, perfectly illustrated by a 30-year-old cask breaking auction records when it sold for $375,000 (US) in Hong Kong. Deservedly so, it remains the aficionado’s choice when it comes to Scotch.
